Old Overholt Whiskey

old overholt

work hard. stand fast. don’t waiver.
The Olds

These are the three principles by which Abraham Overholt (1784-1870) lived and made his whiskey. He’s the father of American distilling and took uncompromising pride in his product — a legacy which continues today.

Old Overholt is the oldest of The Olds, a relic you can drink. This famous Straight Rye Whiskey has a distinctive flavor and appeal that, after Prohibition, made it the most popular spirit in the country.

Agreeable means you get along. And Old Overholt does just that. It’s renowned for its outstanding mixability in classic cocktails like the Old Style Manhattan (look it up). The one and only Old Overholt is 80 Proof and aged 3 years.

Old Crow Whiskey
Old Crow Whiskey

old crow

not every muse is a beautiful woman.
The Olds

Old Crow Bourbon is named for Dr. James C. Crow, the inventor of the sour mash process, which is a process that makes mighty fine whiskey. In fact, in 1835 Old Crow bourbon was the first bourbon to begin using the process that, today, has become a standard in the bourbon industry.

Normally we don’t like to drop names, but screw it. Old Crow has hung out with all sorts of famous folks. It was served in the presidential homes of Andrew Jackson, William Henry Harrison and Ulysses S. Grant. And it was enjoyed and praised by the likes of Walt Whitman, Henry Clay, Jack London, Mark Twain and Hunter S. Thompson.

There are some fantastic Civil War stories about this old bird that quote Abraham Lincoln, but we are running out of room, so you will need to Internet that information yourself.

Old Grand-Dad Whiskey

old grand-dad

great taste runs in the family.
The Olds

Old Grand-Dad was a real person, which should not surprise you if you’ve read any of the words on this page. He was a distiller named Basil Hayden who made his name by distilling a bourbon whiskey made with a higher percentage of rye. Basil Hayden passed along the art of distilling to his son Thyme (Just pulling your leg. We don’t know his name) and then, in turn, to his grandson. It was the third generation distiller, Colonel R.B. Hayden, who honored his grandfather by naming his justly famed whiskey “Old Grand-Dad.”

During Prohibition, Old Grand-Dad was produced by a pharmaceutical company, the American Medicinal Sprits Co., and was one of the few distilled spirits permitted to be prescribed as medicine. It was a popular time to be sick.
